I'm really starting to wonder if all the vitriol against Obama is just straight up bigotry and in some cases racism. Either way, if something was to happen to him God forbid, I don't think those same people are prepared for the BACKLASH that would occur.

Think the LA riots were bad? Watts? Detroit? Chicago? Imagine all at once.

Good Lord . . .

Wow,

The world has certainly changed since I began this thing . . . We're now on the verge of putting a Black man in serious contention for the Democratic Presidential nomination and the arrows are flying.

I'm going to resist the urge to turn this thing into a political blog . . . although the last couple of posts started steering me in that direction. However, I think that the "fun"folks I'm looking for now must have a requisite amount of social conscientiousness to pass the test.

Nods to you Field http://field-negro.blogspot.com/, to you Snobs out there http://blacksnob.blogspot.com/ and the SCAN http://since1865.blogspot.com/

Pedro for president . . .

Napoleon Dynamite reviews . . .
Don't you hate it when a movie reviewer gives a review of a movie that they probably didn't even watch?? Such is the case with Jeanne Aufmuth and Naapoleon Dynamite.

I just watched the movie and although it was a little goofy with the spectacle of the misfit kids and the epic struggle with the "in" crowd, it was fun. Most of us in the GenX generation and younger can relate to the awkwardness of high school no matter where we went. It's fun to see the little guy/underdog win.

Ms. Aufmuth completely misses the point; some of the inaccuracies are:
It was Pedro that made the advances to the "popular girl" that were rebuffed not Napoleon. His family is disfunctional, but the real cretin is Uncle Rico living in the past and preying on gullible residents with door-to-door scams. Kip's online chatroom meanderings are harmless. He makes a love connection and it's a nice diversion, not a sleazy thing. He seems to find the soulmate that he's is looking for through out the movie. Grandma, a minor character is living the live of a mature woman looking after her grandkids. A minor character (spends most of the movie in the hospital due to an ATV mishap).

Humiliation is a part of life. The move puts that out in the clear. Often I hear those in the Baby Boom generation remark: "My kids love the movie but I thought it was kind of sad . . " That's the point. Unless you are a jock or a princess or in the right clique, high school life for the uncool was sad. Most kids want to be accepted, allowed in the "in" crowd. Things that kids do to fit in can be sad, self esteem is low and people are just finding out what they are really made of.

You go Napoleon . . .

Tom DeLay is a punk . . .pass it on

Time to get on the tin foil hats . . .the sky is falling. No not really, but it seems that some of the happenings in Washington these days are right out of the latest trashy TV show on Fox. Tom DeLay acts unethically - that is a given. Tom DeLay changes the rules so that he can evade penalties for shady dealings- okay, starting to get a bad taste in the mouth. Tom DeLay's party says that the general public is concerned more over the price of gas for their big SUVs than any silly old ethics violations and that the majority of folks don't actually know who Tom DeLay is . . .okay stop the insanity (apologies to Susan Powter). I know that $76 per tank (you suckers with Suburbans) is enough to make you want to protest, but what can you do? Sell the beast , buy something like a used Volvo station wagon (c'mon they're owned by Ford now) and lose some weight - less mass, less gas. But I digress.

I think it's slightly more important that we don't let our elected officials (especially those that make it to majority leader, for crying out loud) side step the rules just because they want to. Check out what the religious freedom coalition has to say: http://www.tylwythteg.com/enemies/tom.html

And for those of you who don't know who Tom DeLay is and what he stands for, shame on you. Get to know who the cronies are and what their beliefs are and what they mean for you. Living in the richest most powerful country in the world means nothing if you don't harness that power for good.
